We are now approaching the time of year when annual Smarter Balance Testing occurs here at Leota. We look at state testing as an opportunity to show all of the gains in learning that have taken place over the past year. CERT 2019 registration is now open!  Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 7-session course that trains community members how to care for themselves and their neighbors during the first days following a disaster when emergency resources may be overwhelmed. 2019 Snow Make Up Days
Due to the epic snow storm we endured in February,school was cancelled for eight days. Because Governor Inslee proclaimed a State of Emergency, the school district was able to  request a waiver for five of those days Opens a New Window. . However, this only allows us to waive the requirement of 180 school days. We are still required to complete 1,027 hours of instructional time. Therefore we must make up the instructional hours lost from waiving five school days, as well as the remaining three schools days that we are unable to waive. Are you ready to help your family and neighbors when disaster strikes? The next City of Kirkland Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course starts soon don’t miss out! Learn about personal preparedness, light search and rescue, fire suppression, disaster first aid and much more. This hands-on course is informative and fun. Class will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6-9 PM starting March 6th through May 4th. Students will attend 8 weeks of instruction including a final Saturday simulation drill; attendance at all sessions is required for graduation. If you signed up for Ski & Snowboard Club, starting Friday, January 4, Leota has a Storage Room if you would like to drop off your equipment in the morning for afternoon pickup.  Bring your skis/snowboards and bags to the west parking lot (beside the Cafeteria) and find a PTSA volunteer at the side entrance to the 600 building Friday mornings, 8 to 8:30 am; or after school at 3pm. Career Day 2019 will take place on Thursday, March 14th from 9:30am – 12:00pm at Leota. We need over 60 panelists to make the day a success! Please consider participating in this rewarding community event. Career Day is a PTSA event that offers our students insight into many different career paths.
